Upgrading the Interior Dome Lights on 2005 GMC Sierra rentry.co
Replacing the dome light is the easiest part of the upgrade. Use a small flathead screwdriver or a plastic trim tool to gently pry off the clear plastic lens cover. Be careful not to crack the aged plastic. The factory bulb is a glass tube with metal ends. Gently pull it out of the spring-loaded contacts. If the bulb has been in place for nearly two decades, it may be stuck—wiggle it carefully. Insert the new LED festoon bulb. LEDs are polarity-sensitive, meaning they only work when installed in the correct orientation. If the light does not turn on when you open the door or press the switch, remove the bulb, flip it 180 degrees, and reinsert it. Snap the lens cover back into place. The difference is immediate: the cab will be flooded with clean, bright light.
