Yamaha Raptor 700 Brake System Upgrades for Stopping Power morsunled.mystrikingly.com
While stainless steel lines improve the feel and consistency of braking, oversized rotors increase the actual stopping power. The front brakes on the Raptor 700 use 180mm rotors, but upgrading to 220mm oversized rotors provides a significant advantage. The larger diameter moves the caliper further outward from the axle centerline, increasing the leverage the caliper has on the wheel. This leverage multiplies the braking force, meaning you can achieve the same stopping power with less lever effort, or significantly more stopping power with the same effort. Oversized rotors also offer better heat dissipation. Braking generates enormous heat, and when rotors overheat, they experience brake fade, where the friction material loses grip and stopping distances increase dramatically. A larger rotor has more surface area to shed heat into the air, keeping temperatures lower and maintaining consistent braking performance even during repeated hard stops on long descents or aggressive trail sections.
